The berry house

Last year we’ve planted a few blueberries down the hill, but we learned that they don’t have the best growing conditions there. The soil is far too dry and we didn’t add enough compost to keep the ph value down to 5.0 – the preferred value of blueberries. Also protecting individual plants from the birds it a nasty job really. So we decide to build them their own house and combine bird protection with wind protection. The berry house terrace is irrigated by our wetland, so the plants shouldn’t run out of water and nutrients any time soon. At least that’s the plan. We’ll see if it works. 20 blueberry plants (6 different varieties), a couple of red- and white-currants, and some gooseberries are waiting to get planted.
