Cottage life

We decided to spend a week of our spring holidays in Golden Bay, not too far from home. It’s about 100 km away on a no-exit road from Motueka. So we packed our stuff into the car and off we went, crossing the steep and narrow road up and down Takaka Hill, picking some food in Takaka and following the scenic road to the little town of Collingwood. Our rented cottage was another 10 km further north, not far from Farewell Spit, where the road finally ends at a looooong strip of white sand.

The area is truly secluded. We barely saw any tourists despite the school holidays and the roads up there are empty as in zombie movies. In short: It’s the perfect place for our holidays. Being far away from noise (not that it’s much louder in Mot) and business. We finally managed to be totally offline for 7 full days, for the first time in years I guess. No mobile phone coverage, no wifi, just the little timber cottage with a wood burner – and us.
